Smart Public lighting for Botoșani County
- Botoșani County, Romania
- Smart Public Lighting
From Outdated Lighting to an Intelligent Network
Botoșani County faced an aging and inefficient public lighting system, with an average consumption of 218.1 kWh per luminaire each year. High energy consumption, poor lighting performance and the need to improve road safety made modernization essential.
URBIO delivered an intelligent public lighting ecosystem across 923 km of roads. The solution combines high-efficiency LED luminaires, smart controllers, three-phase cabinets and an integrated lighting management platform.

BEFORE
Outdated Public Lighting
An aging and inefficient system resulted in high energy consumption, increased operating costs and poor lighting performance.
AFTER
Intelligent Public Lighting
A connected network of high-efficiency LED luminaires provides improved visibility, individual control and significantly lower energy consumption.
Over ten years, the modernized network is expected to save 43,190 MWh of energy, reduce electricity costs by €5.7 million and avoid 19,430 tonnes of CO₂.
These projections are based on data collected from 1,060 luminaires and applied to the complete network of 30,766 units.
Annual Consumption
Reduced from 218.1 to 77.7 kWh per luminaire per year.
Annual Energy Use
Total consumption decreased from 6,710 to 2,392 MWh per year.
Public Budget Impact
Projected savings of €5.7 million over ten years.
10-Year Impact
A projected 19,430 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided.
Smart control and adaptive dimming save 481 MWh every year.
The annual emissions reduction is equivalent to taking 485 cars off the road.
Additional Annual Impact in Real-World Terms
Additional Annual Impact in Real-World Terms
Additional Annual Impact in Real-World Terms
The energy saved annually powers 1,080 households for one year.
The annual emissions reduction equals approximately 175 hectares of forest.
